📌 Snapshot: 0-1 · Travel-rewards co-branded credit card plus travel booking · Bengaluru · Founded 2022 → bootstrapped six months → $9M seed (Jun 2023) → card launched with Federal Bank (2023) → 7,500+ pin codes in five months → $63M round led by General Catalyst (May 2026) at a $500M+ valuation, 17,500+ pin codes.
Problem statement
Young Indians travel more often, but credit-card rewards were complicated, devalued and full of forex fees. Scapia's insight: a travel-first card where everyday spending earns coins you can redeem instantly inside the same app for flights and stays, with zero forex markup and lounge access with no annual fee.
GTM stack & growth engine
- Validate before raising. Anil Goteti (nine years at Flipkart, SVP) self-funded the first six months and showed clickable Figma prototypes to users before taking money.
- Waitlist launch. The card launched via a waitlist (scapia.cards), creating demand before the bank partnership could issue at scale.
- Product as the marketing. Simple, generous, travel-specific benefits (zero forex, lounge access) are easy to explain and share.
- Reach beyond metros. About 40% of users came from outside the top 30 cities within five months.
- Turn a crisis into a product sprint. When Federal Bank temporarily paused onboarding in 2024 for compliance reasons, the team used the downtime to launch buses, trains, visas and airport privileges.
Content loops
Travel-insights reports (e.g. 2025 Travel Insights) and destination campaigns (such as the Leap Year initiative with MP Ecotourism) keep the brand in travel conversations.
Distribution system
App-first. Bank partners (Federal Bank, then BOBCARD) provide issuing; dual-network Visa and RuPay cards, including UPI-linked credit (RuPay on UPI) to ride UPI's distribution.
AI angle
The 2026 round is explicitly framed around building an AI-first product and organisation (in engineering, product and data science).

Key insights
- Steal: Show prototypes to users before you raise; it de-risks the pitch.
- Steal: Bundle the reward with instant redemption in the same app, so the loop closes inside your product.
- Caution: Bank-partner dependency is a real risk. The 2024 onboarding pause and reported credit-limit cuts caused user frustration (Inc42). FY24 revenue was ~₹24 Cr against a ~₹88 Cr loss (Business Standard).
